What's happening in UPM??
For those of you that come across today’s papers headline that the MOE is going to set up a committee in UPM “to look into the fracas between two groups of undergraduates” , you might be asking the question – what’s happening in UPM?
I was busy earlier this week so I missed out the news as well. On Friday night, I surf the net and checked some sites only to find out that there are some conflicts between some student organizations in UPM. Those involved includes the Students Progressive Front(mainly Chinese students) and the students representative council(mostly malay students). UPM vice chancellor earlier describes this as a racial issue which he later denies.
This incident started when the Students Progressive Front (SPF) wanted to start a service counter in the hostel for the welfare of the students in 12th college. However they were disturbed by some students from the university student council. Below are the links to the video clip about what happened in UPM on Monday.
So, the next time when you read some news that you couldn’t understand, come and check it online. The news you read in the papers is most probably censored. There are a couple of sites that you could count on, Kit’s blog, Malaysia Today, Malaysia Kini, Merdeka Review, or even my blog.
